Asafo Market In the Ashanti Region Is On Fire.

47 mins ago The Asafo Market in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, went up in flame for the second time within 24 hours, ravaging properties running into thousands of cedis. Over 200 shops have been burnt into ashes in the second inferno that hit the market on Easter Sunday. This adds to three, the fire outbreaks that have been experienced in Kumasi in less than 72 hours. Though the cause of the fires are yet to be established, victims suspect it could be arson. 3news.com’s Ibrahim Abubakar reports that personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the fire scene just 10 minutes after the market caught fire but “access to the place was a major challenge to them”. Had it not been that, the fire would have been brought under control to reduce the extent of damage caused, he reported.  They had arrived with three fire tenders. The fire started around 8pm but as at 10pm the fire personnel were still battling the inferno. Regional Fire Commande...

UK-Based Ghanaian with two Wombs Shares Story

UK-based Ghanaian with 2 wombs shares story It may probably sound like a fairy tale to hear there exists a woman who has more than one vagina and one womb, but Elizabeth Amoah has lived with this condition for quite some time and has now decided to let the world know about it. Speaking on 3FM’s Drive with Giovani Caleb over the week Elizabeth, also known as ‘Special Lady’, disclosed she has had to undergo seven medical surgeries after she was diagnosed of having sexual complications. “I discovered I had a double womb and a double vagina canal in 2015 after an MRI scan, so I had to undergo about 7 surgeries,” she told Giovani Caleb. The scan, according to her, also detected she had Endometriosis: a sexual disorder in which tissues linings of the uterus grows outside the uterus. She explained having a double vagina means “having one vagina outside and the other inside”. She added that the double womb usually does not come with any symptoms but rather expose...

ENCHICO CAMPAIGN AGAINST SEXUAL HARASSMENT

A new awareness campaign is being launched today at ENCHI COLLEGE OF EDUCATION  targeting sexual harassment and sexual violence. Sexual harassment is not about sex. It’s about power. It’s about the power a boss can exercise over a worker, the power a teacher can exercise over a student, and power—less concretely defined—that male co-workers can exert over their female peers. It’s a kind of power play, manifested as sex discrimination. Sexual harassment is one of the leading forms of discrimination that women and femme-identifying workers face. Surveys show that 58% of women report having experienced gender harassment at work. Sexual harassment and discrimination are against UE’s values, and they are illegal under most union contracts. It is also illegal under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, a law that UE fought to get passed. In 1980, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) issued guidelines defining sexual harassment. It is defined as: (1) unwelco...

WE CAN'T ADMIT FRESH STUDENT THIS YEAR- E.P COLLEGE SAYS

The E. P. College of Education, Amedzofe, established in 1946, cannot admit fresh students this academic year if the infrastructure on the campus is not immediately expanded. “This is due to the four-year Bachelor of Education Programme which was introduced last academic year,” Dr Dickson Tsey explained. He described the situation as highly uncomfortable and appealed to the government to take fast-track measures as soon as possible before “we get overwhelmed” by that state of affairs. Dr Tsey who was speaking at the 13 th  Congregation of the college on Saturday, also called on policy makers and various stakeholders to take a second look at the teaching practice under the B. Ed programme known as Supported Teaching in Schools (STS), saying that although its implementation looked simple, it was quite complex, depending on the factor of location.  “We find ourselves at a place where our partner schools for the STS are far away, forcing us to transport...

Meet the Trainee teacher who uses his leisure time to weave local made basketry

Covid is here and has come to stay. In order to fit into the system where personal hygiene as well as all protocols are concerned, a Student of Enchi College Of Education had made a shocking move to turn the old mess down. As a craft of his, Nkrumah Acheampong Ernest took to himself to use his God given talent to help his college in curbing and controlling sanitation on campus.  He move to the backward of the campus to find himself a number of raffia (palm tree) to make a basket. The shocking news is that most of the students shared words of praises to him and also served as immediate scene for some students who had never witnessed how local baskets are made.   The 27 year old students of Enchico is from Edweso in the Asante Region of Ghana.  Seedy Wan as most known on campus promised to use the weekends to craft more of the baskets so he may share to the various halls on campus!
