The Right To Information Bill was passed following the completion of it's consideration stage after several policy changes, amendments and months rigorous debate of the floor of the House
The RTI Bill had been in parliament for close to two decades despite calls from media and civil society groups for it passage.
The Rationale for the bill is to give right and access to official information held by public institutions, private entities which perform public functions with public funds.
The Bill was was drafted in 1999, reviewed in 2003, 2005 and 2007 but was not presented to parliament until later in 2013, and it was finally passed on 26/03/19.
